I watched a number of clips on YouTube yesterday, including some from his last (I assume his last) special, RIP, and I decided his style had matured into something very masterful and intense with a sweep and command like a Old Testament prophet. It didn’t appear to me that he had “lost it.” It was inspired rage. He just plowed on like a steam locomotive.
I remember him fromm his “Hippy-Dippy Weatherman” days. He went from comic to social and even cultural critic. Besides his “7 Words” I seem to remember him saying religion is a load of crap, the U.S. loves to bomb countries filled with brown people, golf is an elitist game and we should let homeless people live on golf courses, both parties are owned by corporations, and instead of putting drug dealers in jail why don’t we execute bankers who launder the money.
Do comedians make the best social critics because of what they can say in the guise of “comedy”?
It doesn’t get better. It’s sad he’s gone.
Someone unafraid to say what many of us are thinking, but afraid to speak aloud. Society needs more people like George Carlin.

That “Poem of the Modern Man” he does at the beginning of that special is amazing.
